Photography reflecting Social and Economic Development

Writings of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá about Social and Economic Development were shared on social media along with photographs of the Baháʼí Gardens and of grassroot endeavors of social action.
God has endowed man with intelligence and reason whereby he is required to determine the verity of questions and propositions. If religious beliefs and opinions are found contrary to the standards of science, they are mere superstitions and imaginations; for the antithesis of knowledge is ignorance, and the child of ignorance is superstition. Unquestionably there must be agreement between true religion and science. If a question be found contrary to reason, faith and belief in it are impossible, and there is no outcome but wavering and vacillation.”

Talk at Baptist Temple
Broad and Berks Streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania“Scientific knowledge is the highest attainment upon the human plane, for science is the discoverer of realities. It is of two kinds: material and spiritual. Material science is the investigation of natural phenomena; divine science is the discovery and realization of spiritual verities. The world of humanity must acquire both. A bird has two wings; it cannot fly with one. Material and spiritual science are the two wings of human uplift and attainment. Both are necessary—one the natural, the other supernatural; one material, the other divine. By the divine we mean the discovery of the mysteries of God, the comprehension of spiritual realities, the wisdom of God, inner significances of the heavenly religions and foundation of the law.” (The Promulgation of Universal Peace, Author: ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, TALKS ‘ABDU’L-BAHÁ DELIVERED IN CAMBRIDGE AND BOSTON, 23 May 1912, Talk at Home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis W. Breed, 367 Harvard Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts)

Conversations with the visitors at the Information Centre of the Baha’i House of Worship, about the life and teachings of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Following Bahá’u’lláh’s passing, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s extraordinary qualities of character, His knowledge and His service to humanity offered a vivid demonstration of Bahá’u’lláh’s teachings in action, and brought great prestige to the rapidly expanding community throughout the world.
In His Writings and during His travels, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá tirelessly proclaimed certain vital truths to leaders of thought as well as to countless groups and individuals. Among these truths were: “The independent search after truth, unfettered by superstition or tradition; the oneness of the entire human race, the pivotal principle and fundamental doctrine of the Faith; the basic unity of all religions; the condemnation of all forms of prejudice, whether religious, racial, class or national; the harmony which must exist between religion and science; the equality of men and women, the two wings on which the bird of humankind is able to soar; the introduction of compulsory education; the adoption of a universal auxiliary language; the abolition of the extremes of wealth and poverty; the institution of a world tribunal for the adjudication of disputes between nations; the exaltation of work, performed in the spirit of service, to the rank of worship; the glorification of justice as the ruling principle in human society, and of religion as a bulwark for the protection of all peoples and nations; and the establishment of a permanent and universal peace as the supreme goal of all mankind.”
On a guided tour of the House of Worship, visitors were engaged in various conversations where some glimpses of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s life were shared.

Commemorating the Centenary at the Baha’i House of Worship

” In brief, the original purpose of temples and houses of worship is simply that of unity — places of meeting where various peoples, different races and souls of every capacity may come together in order that love and agreement should be manifest between them. That is why Bahá’u’lláh has commanded that a place of worship be built for all the religionists of the world; that all religions, races and sects may come together within its universal shelter; that the proclamation of the oneness of mankind shall go forth from its open courts of holiness — the announcement that humanity is the servant of God and that all are submerged in the ocean of His mercy. It is the Mashriqu’l-Adhkar. The world of existence may be likened to this temple and place of worship.‘Abdu’l-Bahá, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, p. 65
Millions of Bahá’ís in communities all across the world are commemorating the hundredth anniversary of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s passing. Amidst this unification of hearts and thoughts towards the remembrance of the beloved Master, Houses of Worship emerged as focal points of the commemorations.
The Baha’i House of Worship, New Delhi, observed this auspicious occasion beautifully.
